At Grown Green, we have an everyday commitment to impacting our environment as little as possible. Of course, since most of our beautifully textured floorcoverings are made from renewable resources, being eco-friendly is simply in our nature.

Natural fiber rugs are sustainable, biodegradable and the environmentally responsible choice for helping to preserve our planet for generations to come.

Here are some of the reasons why we can call ourselves Grown Green:

Sisal

A durable plant fiber harvested from the mature leaves of the agave sisalana plant grown in East Africa, Brazil and Mexico.

Since most weeding is done by hand, no pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used in sisal production. Strong enough for rope used to tie up ships, but soft enough for the bedroom, sisal has long been considered the best wearing and strongest natural fiber. Its incredible versatility makes it possible for us to offer you a wide range of patterns and textures.

Jute

Traditionally grown and harvested from the skin, or bast, of the jute plant.

Jute is sustainably grown, pollution-free and completely biodegradable. Woven in both India and Bangladesh, jute rugs are the distinctive, classic example of combining historical value with contemporary ideals. They are known to be soft, highly textured and incredibly durable--a pleasure for both the eye and foot.

Coir

Made from fibers from the outer husk of the coconut that have been soften by water, then twisted and spun into yarn.

Coir rugs have a distinctively natural character that complements their durability. True to their tropical roots, coir rugs are able to withstand contact with some moisture. Plus, whatever materials from the coconut that can't be used for food or for coir yarn are combined with other organic materials and used as compost in soil treatment.

Seagrass

A natural, non-porous fiber that comes in a naturally beautiful range of pale green and gold that mellow over time.

The seagrass fiber was developed from a tropical reed grown in China and Vietnam, and seagrass rugs have long been considered a staple for sophisticated, effortless style. They are never treated with dye, so they're a great choice for those with chemical sensitivities. Their range of subtle, naturally occurring colors--from beige and green to yellow and russet--and their sweet, hay-like scent bring the beauty of nature to any room.

Wool

Spun from a sheep's coat into one of the most versatile fibers worldwide.

The fiber itself is renewable and biodegradable and is much more environmentally sound than petroleum-based options, like nylon. Outdoor

Nature-inspired rugs that allow you to enjoy that natural feel outdoors.

With a natural fiber look designed to stand up to the elements, our outdoor rugs add texture and style underfoot in any environment. To enhance their durability, these rugs are woven from 100% UV-stable polypropylene for increased water resistance.

Natural Carpet Backings

Some of our most common backings include jute, natural latex, and natural rubber. Natural rubber and latex backings are extracted from the Havea rubber tree and unlike synthetic latex, natural latex is not produced by chemical polymerization.
